Mid-Year reflections, including money reflections...
A bunch of resources because you asked for them!
Hi Jamii Finance Reader,
It’s been an honor to see you share our newsletter and refer new readers to the platform. We are at over 700 readers and it’s beyond belief that we have grown this much in just a couple of months. This month’s issue is a compilation of the resources we have been sharing since the start of this newsletter. As the editor, I frequently find myself worried about whether our newsletter runs the risk of being your generic finance google-able resource. The truth is, there’s a lot of stuff out there but how do you sift through to find what’s important? I share recommendations of resources I use and love! I hope this preliminary list is helpful; I would not want this to be just another newsletter trying to get you to ‘save more, spend less especially on coffees and guac’ lol.
Read through, and share your feedback with us. We love hearing from you.
Excel Sheet with pre-populated formulas and simplified cash statements to help track your net-worth. Apart from its simplicity, what I like the most about this tracker is that since it was shared by a regular person, I can rely on their template for investment ideas. I’m also made aware of some of the payments I forget about like service subscriptions, which could run you a bill you don’t know of. When you download the spreadsheet, here’s an easy way to clear the spreadsheet without deleting formulas:
Select ALL of your cells on the worksheet that have something in them (numbers, text, or formulas).
Under "Find & Select" on the home tab, choose "Go To Special..."
Click on the option next to "Constants"
If you only want to clear out numbers, and not text items, then uncheck "Text", "Logicals", and "Errors".
Click OK
Now only the cells that DO NOT have formulas in them are selected. Right click on one of the selected cells and choose "Clear Contents". Your formulas remain, but the rest of the cells are cleared.
You want to learn about cryptocurrency but are not sure where to start? I think this 3hr!!! podcast is a great introduction. Listen while in traffic (because there’s way too much of it and we seriously need a solution to this)
10-K Diver is such a wonderful resource on investing, saving, taxes. Granted, it’s very US-centric but some of the principles they discuss like compounding, cut across geographies. I love this resource because they do easy-to-understand threads complete with images and with almost no finance jargon - and they get the point across. If you’re doom scrolling through social media, might as well learn how to increase your retirement savings… (I am judging my social media use, not yours :))
Just_Ivy is a Kenyan you-tuber running a series of conversations on her Instagram page called #MoneyMonday. What I like the most about this series is that regular people chime in to discuss a range of money-related topics. Whether discussing the cost of addictions to startup advice, Just_Ivy’s content is not just educational, but also highly relatable and sometimes offering direct recommendations.
Subscribing to our newsletter, following our twitter posts and keeping up with the Jamii podcast will help you stay updated with our personal finance educational journey :)
